Sudden Grace

It’s springtime in Virginia, and I find myself beneath a flowering tree. I am drawn by sudden blossoms. Nothing holds them back from quiet grace and wild bloom. How freely they open.

As I paint this aM all being, I sense again that we are all one raw and flowing energy. And in the moment, I feel free and in love.

This Painting Records My Inner Conflict

This is my painting process: Play > Narrow into an intention > Rebel against the intention. In other words, a painting that fights against itself. What’s valuable about this is that it includes conflict and harmony, beauty and ugliness. It is an exploration into loving our whole selves—even the parts we reject and try to keep hidden. Here’s an example. It is the eighth iteration of the abstract discovery painting.

Iteration 8. Three feet square. Oil on canvas.
