A second version of the new Holism piece from the studio today:
New Holism Pieces
A new piece for the Holism series emerged in the studio this week…
Flower
Here’s the painted version of Flower. It’s 36” square, acrylic on canvas.
Way Stations
The entire journey is a miracle.
Way Stations
This painting came alive when I remembered to bring my senses into the moment. Mostly, I was trying to get the painting right. That was amazing but not miraculous. Even way stations reveal miracles when we bring our senses into play.
Fire and Silence
Exploring how conflict leads to harmony…
Fire and Silence.
Go down
down
down
to the place in you
where fire and silence dwell —
the place of power.

The Seed and the Flower
After an intense week in the Studio, a new style emerged for the Holism series. This is still hard-edge painting, but subtle color changes soften the look. This feels organic and otherworldly.

How I Make A Hard Edge Painting
After sketching a design with pen and ink on paper, I’ll hone it digitally, then draw the final design on canvas. Like this:
Next, I’ll lay down the color in related hues. I like to show my hand in the painting. Instead of using tape to make hard edges, I’ll brush on the paint slowly and carefully. Hard-edge can be human.
Throughout, I’m focusing on value (how light and dark colors compare to each other). Differences in value make a bold image and lead the eye around the piece. I apply up to five coats of paint to give the piece a strong presence.
Here is the completed piece. “Origin.” 36” x 36” acrylic on canvas. It’s available. Take a look! I added three dark rays emanating from the center of the painting. Now the piece is dynamic and anchored.
Unleash the Beast Within
“Acrylic On Flesh.” Photograph. My first and forever love is finger painting, where the canvas is limitless, and expression runs free.
Can you feel the color? Grab your paint. Release the beast within.
